Nick Simmons is a Senior Advisor to the United States Secretary of Education focused on School Reopening and Recovery in the Office of the Secretary at the United States Department of Education. In this role, Nick advises the Secretary of Education and leads the Department’s efforts to safely reopen schools across the nation and to recover from the fallout of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Previously, Nick served as the Director of Strategic Initiatives for the State of Connecticut and Policy Advisor to Governor Ned Lamont. In this role, Nick designed, led and coordinated key policy initiatives for the Lamont Administration focusing on issue of economic development, educational equity, and workforce development. Nicks began his career in education serving as a seventh-grade math teacher, assistant-principal and acting school leader of middle schools in Harlem, New York. He holds a Master of Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor’s Degree from Yale University.
