Since 1992, Leadership, Education and Athletics in Partnership, Inc. (LEAP) has served at-risk, minority children and teens in five target neighborhoods in the city of New Haven. LEAP provides year-round after school and summer programs run by trained local teen leaders via a multi-tiered mentoring program. As the largest employer of youth (ages 16+) in the city, LEAP is adapting to the COVID-19 crisis by taking their existing model virtual and implementing a hybrid in-person/virtual program that can serve both schoolchildren and teens in the community. With this grant, LEAP aimed to fully fund their Fall 2020 programming efforts for a free, comprehensive after school program providing academic and socio-emotional support, as well as employment opportunities through a hybrid in-person and virtual model.
